Annual Meeting 2022

Update: If you missed the meeting and would like to watch it online, you can do so below.

It is time for the Ohio Lakefront Group Annual Meeting, which will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at the Catawba Island Club (CIC).  For those who prefer to attend in person, you may arrive beginning at 6:00 p.m., when the parking lot is available, and doors will open for registration. Light hors d’oeuvres, coffee, and soda will be available for a social (half) hour beginning at 6:30 p.m., and the meeting will start promptly at 7:00 p.m. For those who prefer to join online, we will have a Zoom option. The Zoom link will be opened by 6:50 PM. Participants will be muted with video shut off, but you will have the opportunity to vote and ask questions.

We are asking all participants to register in advance. Additional important details will be provided at registration.

The formal agenda should last less than 20 minutes and will consist of only two items: a Treasurer’s Report and a vote to elect 3 members to a 3-year term to the Board of Directors. Listed below are the candidates for the Board.  All candidates are currently serving on the Board of Directors.

Greg Baeppler                   Bay Village

Bob Bunsey                      Huron

Vitas Cyvas                      Willowick

Immediately following will be three very timely presentations:

First, I will discuss what is happening with ODNR.  Specifically, ODNR has introduced legislation that will impact how it will interact with lakefront owners.  It is Senate Bill 313.  ODNR did not work with us in the development of this legislation, and we have some serious concerns.  At this time we are working to make small, but very important, changes to that legislation.  If we cannot get the necessary changes to ODNR’s proposed legislation, we may be forced to file another lawsuit against the ODNR.  Come and hear the latest.

I will also discuss the Cuyahoga County Lakefront Public Access Plan to make a bike/walking path along the lakeshore.  This is being modeled after a ¼ mile project in Euclid where the property owners have given up control of their lakefront in exchange for the installation of shoreline protection.  These people made a choice.  They were not forced to do this. but they may not have gotten what they were hoping for.  Similar proposals could be coming your way.

Second, Many people have heard about SIDs (Special Improvement Districts) as they apply to lakefront property owners.  SIDs are a way to combine neighbors (or act as an individual), to obtain low-cost financing in order to develop shoreline protection and improvement.  We plan to have a local leader to discuss how he has championed this effort for his community, pending schedule availability.

Third, Jim Stouffer, President of the Lake Erie Foundation, will speak about green algae and their efforts to bring about appropriate changes via a coalition of various groups and a multi-faceted approach.

As always, there will be a question and answer period where you may raise your questions, comments or concerns to the experts.  For those who participate online, we will have a moderator present questions as possible. Please take advantage of this unique opportunity.

Our activities and expenses have been mostly curtailed because of COVID.  Therefore, we are not requesting dues to be paid this year.  However, contributions are always welcome.  If we file another lawsuit because of the proposed legislation, we will be asking for dues/contributions.

If you plan to attend in person, please register as soon as possible as we need to provide a headcount to CIC and have limited seating.  Even if you plan to attend online, please register so we can get you the appropriate materials.

Sincerely,

Tony Yankel

President

Ohio Lakefront Group
