History and Leadership

History

The Ohio Lakefront Group formed in response to unjust Ohio Coastal Management policies like requiring deeded owners to lease their private property from the state, establishing burdensome and expensive permitting processes for shoreline structures and protection, making restrictions on property sales, and more. These draconian actions violated the constitutionally-protected property rights of lakefront property owners.

Although we first sought legislative means to resolve the conflict, we were forced to file a class action lawsuit in May of 2004 due to the statute of limitations. We won in every court, including a unanimous decision by the Ohio Supreme Court in 2011.

Since that time we have also engaged through the Courts to ensure that the State was paying damages as awarded in the lawsuit and have been working to adopt reasonable laws and regulations governing Ohio's Lake Erie Shoreline.
